2026-03-30 - 12:22

Police arrested 13 individuals, including seven minors, who are “supporters of various neo-Nazi groups and fascist ideology” and who “physically and psychologically abused people of various ages with extreme cruelty,” Tbilisi Police Chief Vazha Siradze said at a March 30 briefing. 16 more people, including ten minors, had been arrested in January in the same case. Siradze said at the recent briefing that four previously arrested individuals and currently jailed will face additional charges of organizing and participating in group violence. Siradze said the months-long investigation established that “members of violent groups identified themselves as neo-Nazis and were guided by fascist ideology.” “In order to gain notoriety, promote fascist ideology, and expand the influence of neo-Nazi network members, they displayed radical hostility toward victims and used extreme cruelty, employing various blunt and sharp objects, including batons and so-called brass knuckles, to assault their targets,” Siradze said, adding, “They were especially brutal toward those who did not share their fascist beliefs.” He further said the groups also robbed victims and extorted money during the attacks. “The members of the group recorded acts of violence, torture, degrading treatment, and physical and psychological abuse on mobile phones and deliberately distributed the footage on various internet platforms,” he added. Siradze also said that members of the violent groups assaulted each other as well during internal conflicts. “As a result of these violent actions, around 10 people were harmed, including two minors.” Police seized “firearms, sonic and cold weapons, items bearing Nazi symbols, mobile phones, masks, and various electronic devices.” The case is being investigated under Criminal Code articles related to group torture, organization and participation in group violence, robbery, extortion, and the illegal purchase, storage, and carrying of firearms and explosives, offenses punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
