Money Transfers to Georgia Rise 18% in December, EU and U.S. Remain Top Sources

Georgia received USD 337.95 million in foreign money transfers in December, marking an 18.4% year-over-year increase, according to data released by the National Bank of Georgia (NBG). The United States and European Union countries remained the largest sources, jointly accounting for 64% of total inflows, worth USD 216.4 million. The money transferred from the EU member states collectively amounted to USD 152.69 million, representing 45.18% of all transfers, and marking an 18.59% increase from December 2024. By individual countries, the United States led with USD 63.71 million (18.8%), followed by Italy with USD 58.67 million (17.3%), Russia with USD 43.47 million (12.86%), Germany with USD 30 million (8.8%), and Greece with USD 27.54 million (8.1%). China recorded the highest year-over-year increase, surging almost 19 times to USD 1.5 million. Growth was also reported from Uzbekistan, up twofold to USD 1.43 million, Tajikistan, up 48.3% to USD 1.01 million, Lebanon, up 46.2% to USD 1.15 million, and Belgium, up 40.9% to USD 1.88 million. In contrast, Kyrgyzstan posted the steepest decline, with transfers falling 31.3% year-over-year to USD 4.67 million. Meanwhile, money transfers from Georgia totaled USD 40.8 million in December 2025, representing a 17.5% increase from the USD 34.8 million recorded in December 2024. Personal remittances to Georgia are equal to 11.9% of the country’s GDP, according to the World Bank’s 2024 data.
